Festo CPX-E PLCs and Modules for Machine Control
Festo CPX-E-CEC controllers are used to control machines, process sensor signals and integrate drives and I/O systems. The ASFERO catalog includes C1 versions for CODESYS programming and M1 versions with SoftMotion functions for motion control. Choose a configuration based on the machine logic, signal count, network architecture and axis requirements.
Explore this category
- CODESYS PLCs — CPX-E-CEC-C1 controllers for machine logic and signal processing;
- CODESYS SoftMotion PLCs — CPX-E-CEC-M1 controllers for systems with controlled axes;
- Festo PLC expansion modules — a category for selecting compatible I/O channels and other CPX-E system components.
How to choose a Festo CPX-E controller
- Control functions: consider a C1 model for machine logic; choose an M1 model if the project requires motion control with CODESYS SoftMotion.
- Industrial network: determine whether a PROFINET (-PN) or EtherNet/IP (-EP) version is required. Check the protocols and device role against the full part number.
- Signal requirements: count the digital and analog inputs and outputs, and identify any counter or IO-Link requirements.
- Drive integration: check the controller interfaces, drive specifications, and the number and synchronization requirements of the axes.
- Installation and power: plan the DIN rail layout, field wiring and compatible accessories.

What is the difference between C1 and M1 controllers?
The CPX-E-CEC-C1 is designed for control applications programmed in CODESYS. The CPX-E-CEC-M1 also provides SoftMotion functions for motion control.
What do the -PN and -EP suffixes mean?
They identify network versions of the controller: -PN for PROFINET and -EP for EtherNet/IP. Check the capabilities of the exact part number when planning integration.
Which I/O modules are available for the CPX-E platform?
The platform supports digital and analog inputs and outputs, as well as specialized modules such as a counter and an IO-Link master. Select modules according to the signals and component compatibility.
Do I need SoftMotion for standard machine logic?
If the application only requires sequences, sensor processing and output control, a C1 version may be suitable. Compare it with M1 when the application involves controlled axes.
What information is needed to select a PLC and modules?
Provide an I/O list, network diagram, required protocols, drive and axis details, installation requirements and any available project specification.
