Tell us about the metal target, mounting conditions and operating environment. An engineer will help you select suitable inductive sensors and compatible components for your machine or production line.

Inductive Sensors for Industrial Automation

Inductive proximity sensors provide reliable, non-contact detection of metal objects. To select a sensor quickly and avoid compatibility issues, define the key requirements in advance: output type and switching logic, mounting style, sensing distance and operating conditions.

How to Choose an Inductive Sensor by Specification

  • Output and switching logic: PNP or NPN, and NO or NC. The output must be compatible with your PLC or I/O module inputs.
  • Mounting: flush-mountable or non-flush-mountable. This affects installation clearances and the sensor's effective performance.
  • Housing size and thread: choose a size that fits the mounting location and allows convenient connection. Common options include M8, M12, M18 and M30.
  • Sensing distance: allow a margin beyond the actual operating gap. Explore sensors by sensing distance.
  • Environment and IP rating: consider dust, moisture, washdown, temperature and vibration. Explore sensors by IP protection rating.

Find the Right Sensor Faster

If you already know a key requirement, go straight to the relevant selection: output type (PNP/NPN), mounting (flush/non-flush), size (M12 and others), operating conditions (IP rating) or operating gap (sensing distance).

Frequently Asked Questions About Inductive Sensors

How do I choose between PNP and NPN?

The choice depends on your PLC or I/O module inputs. If you are unsure, check the input wiring diagram and power supply, or confirm compatibility before purchasing.

Which specifications matter most?

Output type and switching logic (PNP/NPN, NO/NC), mounting (flush/non-flush), sensing distance, housing size (M8–M30), IP rating and operating conditions.

Why can the actual sensing distance vary?

It depends on the target material and shape, mounting style (flush/non-flush), clearances and operating conditions.

Can you find an equivalent sensor by its specifications?

Yes. We typically match the output type, mounting style, sensing distance, housing size and IP rating.
